Dr. Spencer and Dr. Leigh Griffeth

Leigh Griffeth was born January 19, 1979 in Memphis, Tennessee. Her father was in dental school at that time. Upon completion of dental school, he moved the family to Copperhill, TN, where he set up a private practice and continues to practice today. Leigh grew up in Copperhill, the younger sister of two athletic brothers who helped develop a competitive edge that she carries with her today. She graduated from Fannin County High School and later attended Anderson College on a basketball scholarship. After realizing that her dream was to follow in the footsteps of her father as a dentist, she transferred to the University of Tennessee to pursue the requirements necessary to get into dental school. While in high school, she often worked at the side of her father, developing the understanding of what dentistry encompasses. Similarly, she worked summers with her father while she attended college. It was during these times that she developed her passion for patient care.

Spencer Griffeth was born September 8, 1978 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The second of four children, Spencer spent the first 9 years of is life in Utah, before his father relocated his business to Marietta, GA. Spencer spent his teenage life on basketball courts and baseball diamonds across the southeast, playing competitively in each sport. It was also during this time that Spencer developed a solid work ethic as he spent countless hours working for his father and uncle at Griffeth Brothers Construction. He was exposed to dentistry for the first time as he helped the Griffeth Brothers construct a dental office. He saw all of the interesting designs and instruments necessary to practice dentistry and it sparked an interest that never subsided. After graduating from Lassiter High School, Spencer attended Brigham Young University where he graduated in three academic years in preparation for dental school. After is first year of college, Spencer spent two years in northern Spain on a mission for his church. Leaving home for two years at 20 years old helped Spencer “grow up” and become independent. At the same time, the mission also helped Spencer become fluent in Spanish; an attribute that has served him well, not only in his dental training but in his private practice as well.

In 2003, Leigh and Spencer entered the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta, GA to begin their dental training. It was here that, due to their course work and common interests, Leigh and Spencer began spending large amounts of time together. The relationship initially began on the basketball court, but quickly spilled over to studies as they realized that school would be a lot easier if team work was put into practice. Spencer and Leigh made quite a team as the strengths of one were often the weaknesses of the other and vise versa. They both give each other all the credit for helping one another complete the requirements of dental school ahead of schedule.

During their second year of dental school, a friendship had developed into a relationship that Leigh and Spencer agreed should continue for the rest of there lives. In August, 2004, they were married in Blairsville, GA. They not only began a marriage together, but a business relationship that continues to develop today. Upon graduating from dental school in May 2007, they began working for Dr. Dennis Muse, Leigh’s father in McCaysville, GA. They worked there in an effort to expand their dental skills until January 2008 when Leigh became pregnant and they both realized that they were ready to begin practicing on their own. In May 2008, they purchased Jasper Family Dentistry from Dr. Bobby Childree in Jasper, GA where they both practice today.

While dentistry is one the passions of their life, the ultimate joy entered their life on April 10, 2008: A wonderful baby boy and along with him, parenthood. Private practice and practice ownership have afforded them the ability to focus on raising children. Currently, Leigh works one day a week allowing her to spend time at home with the children God has blessed them with: Spencer, Jaidyn, Maddox, Bryce and Toby. Private practice allows Leigh the ability to maintain her dental skills while also focusing on raising children.

Spencer continues to practice full-time at Jasper Family Dentistry in order to meet all the financial demands associated with owning a practice and providing for a family. Dentistry is a great profession that not only provides the financial means to do many exciting things, but also the satisfaction of helping people in need.
Besides dentistry, Spencer and Leigh enjoy many sports, the outdoors and the lake. They are both very active in their church and, with the skills that God has given them, they both volunteer for indigent care at a dental clinic in Woodstock,GA. They look forward to the challenges and rewards that life will bring as they pursue not only dentistry, but several other business investments in the future.
